Here are the best places to get your indoor plants among the beautiful beaches, Halal Snack Packs and property moguls of Sydney and its surrounds.
Growing Friends’ Nursery, Royal Botanic Gardens
We’ve been smitten with this idea ever since we heard about it…propagate native, exotic, rare, hard-to-find and endangered plants from the botanic gardens, then use the profits to support the gardens themselves. Brilliant. The nursery is located towards the south side of the gardens, near the Maiden Theatre.
Four Seasons Nursery, Belrose
While it may not be as decadent as the 5-star hotel chain in which it shares its name, the Four Seasons Nursery offers a 5 star range of plants in its massive acre long courtyard. It’s your one-stop gardening shop, especially if you live in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.
Newtown Garden Market, Newtown
Pretty and lovely can only begin to describe this little gem of a nursery, which specialises in small garden spaces, indoor gardens and balconies. Their back courtyard is brimming with great plants and with friendly staff, this is a gardener's paradise.
Honeysuckle Garden, Bondi
We're not always the biggest fan of awards but any place that wins Nursery of the Year is worth visiting. Honeysuckle Garden certainly deserves this accolade. The family run business has 40 years experience and their flagship Bondi location now has a beautiful sister store in Mosman.
Tim's Garden Centre, Campbelltown
Drive an hour or so south of Sydney and you'll reach Campbelltown, which has Tim's Garden Centre and its large expanse of plants and knowledgeable staff. Be sure to check out their website or their regularly updated Facebook page for great gardening advice from their founder, Tim.
Hargraves Nursery, Dural
Established in 1971, Hargraves Nursery has been a bastion of the northern suburb of Dural ever since. They have a nice range of plants at affordable prices and their pledge to their local community is humbling to see.
Elegant Outdoors, Turramurra
A previous award winner for 'small garden centre', Elegant Outdoors is a great little nursery tucked away in Sydney's northern suburbs. With its emphasis on great little gifts and local communities, we loved fossicking around its nooks and crannies.
Sydney Wildflower Nursery, Heathcote
If you're looking for Aussie native plants, look no further than the Sydney Wildflower Nursery where you'll find up to 1200 different species. This, along with the great staff and awesome back story about how it came to be, makes this nursery a real winner.
Rockdale Community Nursery, Rockdale
The Rockdale Community Nursery is a wonderful venture between Rockdale City Council and the Intellectual Disability Foundation of St. George, developed to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by offering both a vocation and a meaningful wage. And with 80,000 plants to choose from, what's not to love?
